The James Harden trade saga is over.
Hours before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Nets are sending Harden and Paul Millsap to Philadelphia in exchange for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond and a package of draft picks.
It was reported earlier in the day that Harden wanted a trade, but did not want to formally request a deal due to the potential for fan backlash. Harden got his wish anyway, and the Nets’ Big Three era suddenly has a very different look.
Simmons has not played at all during the 2021-22 NBA season, as his relationship with the organization following the Sixers’ exit from the 2021 NBA playoffs.

The Nets’ haul includes an unprotected 2022 first-rounder that can be deferred to later years, per Wojnarowski.
The Nets will get the Sixers' 2022 first-round pick unprotected with a right to defer until 2023 and a 2027 first-round pick protected 1-to-8, sources tell ESPN. The 2027 pick would roll over to 2028 protected 1-to-8 again. The pick turns into two seconds and $2M in 2029.
