As the designated home team at Super Bowl LVI against the Los Angeles Rams, the Cincinnati Bengals got first pick on what jerseys they’ll wear, therefore dictating what the Rams will wear.
Those Bengals chose black jerseys, white pants and orange socks in a funny reveal moment. That forced the Rams into wearing white jerseys at their home stadium.
And as it turns out, that paints a pretty dire historical picture for the Bengals from a jersey record standpoint.
The Athletic’s Lindsay Jones and Jourdan Rodrigue explained:
For those keeping uniform score, 14 of the last 17 Super Bowl winners wore white jerseys. That includes the Patriots three years ago, when the Rams, the designated home team for Super Bowl LIII, wore their royal blue jerseys.
The Bengals are 1-1 in the jersey color they selected, although the win was the wild-card triumph over the Raiders to end the 31-year drought.
Keep in mind Cincinnati’s orange jerseys weren’t permitted due to league rules prohibiting alternate jerseys in the Super Bowl.
Either way, the Bengals haven’t let curses and trends hurt them much this year, so perhaps this won’t matter, right?
