PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Three days after coming within a hair of winning his first PGA Tour title, Will Zalatoris withdrew Tuesday from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am due to a positive COVID-19 test.
He was replaced in the field by Greg Chalmers.
Zalatoris, 25, the reigning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year who finished runner-up by one stroke to Hideki Matsuyama in last year’s Masters, missed an 8-footer to win the Farmers Insurance Open on the 72nd hole on Saturday.
He then barely missed from 13 feet to extend the playoff on the first extra hole after Luke List knocked his third shot to the par-5 18th hole to tap-in range.
Zalatoris, No. 29 in the official world rankings, was scheduled to make his 41st PGA Tour start this week.

“I fought like hell all day,” Zalatoris said after the Farmers. “I was kind of more disappointed with what I left out there in the second and third round. I thought today I battled really well. I thought the putt I hit on the 72nd hole, I thought I made it, I just needed a hair more speed.
“I want to go get next week, it’s pretty simple. I’ve got no regrets today at all. Like I said, I thought I battled like hell all day and handled myself really well. I had my chances, for sure, but that’s just the nature of this game.
“It’s hard to win out here, there’s no question about that.”
