The Green Bay Packers won’t get a chance to face electric Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.
The Ravens made Jackson inactive for the contest due to an ankle injury suffered last week in a loss to the Cleveland Browns. He didn’t practice all week and was a long shot to play despite being listed as questionable.
Tyler Huntley will make his second career NFL start in place of Jackson, who has never faced the Packers in a regular-season game.
For the second time this season, a potential matchup of MVP quarterbacks escaped the Packers. In November, Aaron Rodgers was on the COVID-19 list when the Packers faced 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Now, Jackson, the 2019 MVP, is out for Sunday.
Will Huntley, an undrafted free agent from Utah now in his second season, fare better than Jordan Love while starting in place of an MVP?
On Nov. 21, Huntley started for Jackson in Chicago and led the Ravens to a 16-13 win over the Bears. He completed 26 of 36 passes for 219 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception.
Last week, Huntley came off the bench and completed 27 of 38 passes for 270 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions against the Browns. The Ravens closed the gap to 24-22 late in the fourth quarter after trailing 24-3 at one point, but Huntley was unable to complete the comeback.
Overall, Huntley has completed 58 of 85 passes for 528 yards, one touchdown and one interception this season. He’s completing 68.2 percent of his passes and averaging 6.2 yards per attempt, good for a passer rating of 83.8.
