Second-year Boston Celtics point guard Payton Pritchard might not have been getting regular playing time, but when it came to be the moment his number was called in the city he considers his NBA hometown, the Oregonian floor general went off in his limited run, and then some.
While he only played 18 minutes off of the bench in the Celtics’ 145 – 117 blowout win over the undermanned Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center Saturday night, he went hard and put up 19 points that included 3 consecutive treys which sent Boston’s bench into such a frenzy they would earn a technical for their efforts and an apology to the Trail Blazers from head coach Ime Udoka thrown in for good measure.
Pritchard shot a sizzling 6-of-12 overall and 5-of-10 from 3-point range in the win, hinting that Udoka — as right as he was to tender the mea culpa — needs to give the West Linn native more run moving forward.
