The past several weeks, Michigan football has been on the outside looking in for ESPN ‘College GameDay’ host Kirk Herbstreit. After surviving in Happy Valley or throttling Maryland, the Wolverines had just missed the cut for the notable analyst in his weekly top teams.

However, after the maize and blue thoroughly destroyed his alma mater, things changed in a hurry.

Now Michigan is heading to Indianapolis and is expected to take down 10-2 Iowa, a team that lost to Purdue and Wisconsin and backed into the Big Ten Championship Game. While that remains to be seen, the Wolverines are being slotted into many College Football Playoff predictions, including by those in his own network.

With the big win under the belt, Herbstreit lists the Wolverines as his No. 2 team in the country, behind Georgia and ahead of Alabama and Cincinnati. His next two are Oklahoma State and Notre Dame.

Of course, don’t win in Indy, and things change. Also, Georgia and Alabama will face off in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game, just as Cincinnati will take on Houston in the American Championship, while Oklahoma State will face Baylor in the Big 12’s final game. Notre Dame is idle as an independent and needs help to get into the top four overall.

After Michigan’s 42-27 win, Herbstreit tweeted out congratulations to his former rival, noting how well the maize and blue played and how much they were able to dominate what was thought to be one of the best teams in the country.

The Big Ten Championship Game will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and will be nationally televised on Fox at 8 p.m. EST.
