Brian Flores says Tua Tagaovailoa is the Dolphins QB for the year

Flores did his best to deflect questions.

Brian Flores has been put in a tough position to navigate the Deshaun Watson trade rumors without the general manager or owner speaking about it. He has to do his job and keep the current players on his roster comfortable, and that includes his current quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The head coach has reiterated over and over that Tagovailoa is the team’s quarterback, but nobody from the organization, including himself, has denied the interest in a trade.

During his Friday media availability, Flores was peppered with questions about the potential trade, and while he needed coercing and stalled avoided saying that the team is interested in the Texans quarterback, the coach did commit to Tagovailoa.

“When I say he’s our quarterback, I am saying we’re committed to him,” Flores said.

When he was asked if Tagovailoa was the quarterback for the rest of the year, Flores attempted to deflect, and then gave a simple “yeah.”

It’s already known that Tagovailoa is hearing the rumors, and he’s being put in these awkward spots to answer questions about his team and a trade that he has no control over.

There doesn’t seem to be much traction moving towards a completed trade before the deadline, but it would’ve been beneficial for someone in power to make some sort of comment to back their quarterback.
