Devin McCourty is one of five team captains for the New England Patriots this year, the former Rutgers football defensive back entering his twelfth season in the league – all in Foxboro.
The three-time All-Pro selection was a first round pick of the Patriots in the 2010 NFL Draft following a standout career at Rutgers. The selection of McCourty makes him the second former Scarlet Knights player to be named as captain of an NFL team for the upcoming season.
Earlier this week, the New York Giants announced that cornerback Logan Ryan was voted as a team captain.
McCourty was a First-team All-Big East selection in 2009 and was a multi-year starter at Rutgers under head coach Greg Schiano. He has been one of the best defensive backs in the NFL over the past decade.

Last year was another solid season for McCourty, who turned 34-years old this past August. He had 68 tackles with two interceptions and six passes defended. He has been the image of consistency during his dozens years in the NFL, missing only five games during that stretch.
