The Seattle Seahawks may be the new betting favorites to land Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones in a trade but should they actually make the move?
The veteran Jones recently voiced his discontent with the Falcons organization, prompting trade speculation. However, there will be many potential suitors around the NFL looking to acquire his services, and the Seahawks may not even be truly eyeing him despite the report that surfaced over the weekend indicating Seattle had been in discussions with Atlanta about a possible trade.
Jones has built a reputation as one of the best wide receivers of his generation, but Seattle already has Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf and drafted D’Wayne Eskridge in the second round of this year’s draft. The Seahawks signed Lockett to a long-term contract extension and could seek to do the same to Metcalf after the 2021 season.
Wide receiver is not the most urgent position of need and Jones could want a new contract after this season as well, which the Seahawks may not be able to do given the hefty amount he will likely demand.
The Seahawks were able to surprise their fans by acquiring Jadeveon Clowney in 2019 and Jamal Adams in 2020, but can they do it a third time in 2021?
