‘I think he is damn good’: LeBron James impressed by LaMelo Ball at 19

LaMelo Ball faced off against LeBron James for the first time on Thursday, and earned some praise from the four-time MVP in the process.

On Thursday, LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets faced off against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers for the first time this season as the four-time MVP walked away with the victory over the rookie.

James recorded a game-high 37 points, including 22 in the first half, to go along with eight rebounds and six assists in the 116-105 victory. The performance marked his ninth 30-point game of the season while it was the eighth time he has scored 20 points in a half.

Meanwhile, Ball finished with a team-high 26 points, seven assists and five rebounds. He put up 20 points alone in the second half to help keep the Hornets alive until early in the fourth quarter when the Lakers built up a double-digit advantage.

While the Ball and the Hornets ultimately lost the contest, he earned a bit of praise afterward from James based on his early success this season on the court.

“I think he is damn good for his age,” James said, via Jacob Rude of Lonzo Wire. “His speed, quickness (and) ability to make shots at all facets: In the paint, floaters, 3s. He has a three-tier already and he is only going to get better. He is going to get better and better as the season goes on, as his career goes on. He and (Lonzo) are two very unique players in our league and they showcase that every night.”

Ball, throughout the season, has earned respect from his peers given his ability on the court. The opinion of Ball coming into the year was rather mixed, but those that were unsure about him are finding out firsthand just how good he is.

Of course, James played with Lonzo for one season with the Lakers and has previously shown love to LaMelo this season. LaMelo has seemingly improved each time he has taken the court and that figures to continue throughout the rest of the season and beyond.
