The Houston Texans may have signed former Seattle Seahawks center Justin Britt, but the club must continue to perform its due diligence when it comes to the evaluation of the position.
Britt is 29 years old and was out of football in 2020 after having his 2019 season cut short with a knee injury. Britt’s reputation may not match his on-field production, and the Texans need to consider all options.
If the Texans are looking for a young center, who may be there at No. 67 overall when Houston finally gets its first crack at the draft in Round 3, former Oklahoma Sooner Creed Humphrey has to be a consideration.
According to Brianna Dix of the Sooners Wire, Humphrey used his lone opportunity to get in front of scouts on a football field and showcase his talents.
In one of the most pressure-filled days for NFL hopefuls, Humphrey eased through drills looking calm and collected. Pro day, especially today’s simulation of the NFL combine, holds tremendous weight in moving a player potentially up or down on draft boards. On Friday, Humphrey likely climbed on many across the league in need of a dominant centerpiece.
Sure, it has been known he possesses enough athletic ability for zone schemes and to take on double teams, but pro day confirmed and validated his skills.
The performance sparked high praise from one onlooker, head coach Lincoln Riley: “One of the more impressive pro day workouts that I’ve seen.”
Riley, who has been with Oklahoma since 2015 when he was the offensive coordinator under Bob Stoops, has seen his fair share of former Sooners at their pro days. Here is a look at Humphrey’s pro day numbers:
