New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton echoed the sentiment he’s been pushing for weeks. He’s not going to retire. He still thinks he has enough to offer to an NFL team.
He fielded questions about retirement during an appearance on the “I AM ATHLETE” podcast.
“Hell no,” Newton said of retirement. “I can’t go out like that. I hear all of that talk. My pride won’t allow me to do it. There aren’t 32 guys better than me.”
Newton’s statistics didn’t do him justice in 2020. He finished the season completing 65.8 percent of his passes for 2,657 passing yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 15 starts. He added 12 more rushing touchdowns. His supporting cast was lackluster, he faced the adversity of a shortened offseason and he missed two weeks of practice after contracting COVID-19. There’s reason to be believe he can be better in 2021.
