One of Tennessee’s top football players has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Volunteers’ running back Eric Gray entered the portal after Tennessee head football coach Jeremy Pruitt was fired Monday as the program is being investigated for recruiting violations which were alleged under his watch.
Gray accounted for more than 1,000 yards of total offense, while playing in nine of UT’s games.
He missed the 2020 season finale in Knoxville against Texas A&M. The reason for his absence against the Aggies remains unclear.
Gray, a Memphis native, rushed for 772 yards and compiled 254 receiving yards.
In 2019, Gray set a single-game rushing record against Vanderbilt as he had 274 yards in UT’s win over the Commodores.
