Advice and prediction
The Nuggets are undoubtedly in a better place since their slow start to the season, and have won three of their last five with respectable losses to Brooklyn and Utah – but the Nuggets are 0-4 against the spread as an underdog this season.
Still, the advanced stats suggest that Denver is a better team, as the Nuggets rank ahead of the Suns in adjusted offensive rating, defensive rating, net rating and margin of victory. The two teams have already met once in Denver, with the Suns winning 106-103 – but Nikola Jokic had his quietest night of the season in that game, and has been markedly better in every game since. I like the Nuggets outright, but I’ll take the safer bet on Nuggets +2.5.
I’m also taking Over 219.5. Over bets on the Nuggets are 10-4 this season, and while Phoenix began the year playing tremendous defense, they’ve been steadily slipping and now rank 17th in defensive rating. This will be a higher-scoring game than the first meeting was.
Prediction: Nuggets 121, Suns 117
