The Seattle Seahawks players had their final team meetings of the year Sunday morning before clearing out their lockers and returning home for what has now become the start of a very long offseason.

Players had the chance to say some final words in front of the media before they left and linebacker K.J. Wright did not shy away from the hard questions.

Wright stated he believed Seattle missed out on its best chance yet to get back to the Super Bowl.

“Out of all the years since we lost to New England, I thought that this year was our best chance of going,” Wright said during his virtual press conference. “I truly felt like we had all the pieces, we had all the confidence in the world to go back. Twelve-and-four, that’s a really good season, it’s just unfortunate that yesterday was just one of them days, and we faced a really good opponent. We know that playoff time is going to always be tough, but the way that we fell short, I’m still in shock that we lost in the first round.”

Wright wasn’t the only player or staff member taken by surprise by the abrupt season ending. Coach Pete Carroll said on Saturday night that he was still trying to process the loss himself.

Expectations were fairly high for Seattle this season, especially after finishing the year with a 12-4 record and the chance to play the first round of the playoffs at home – a place the Seahawks hadn’t suffered a postseason loss since 2004.

“We’ve got to get better,” Wright continued. “We’ve got to get better and we’ve got to find ways to just get to those playoff moments and just make it happen, because somebody’s got to be there, and I felt like it should have been us this year.”
