Ohio State’s game Saturday against Michigan has been canceled. Texas A&M’s game Saturday against Ole Miss has been canceled. And college football Twitter has a proposal: Buckeyes vs. Aggies.
But let’s back up for a second.
The SEC announced Monday that the Texas A&M-Ole Miss game this weekend is postponed, and it could be canceled altogether if there isn’t a good makeup date. This game was originally schedule for November but was postponed because of COVID-19 issues within the Aggies program. Now, Saturday’s rescheduled game has been postponed because of a “combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals” at Ole Miss, The Clarion Ledger reported.
By Tuesday afternoon, the Michigan Wolverines canceled their upcoming game against the Buckeyes because their program is dealing with an increase in positive COVID-19 cases. The issue for Ohio State here is that it’s only played five games and, currently, it needs to play six to be eligible for the Big Ten championship game December 19.

So college football Twitter suggested a last-minute scheduling of Ohio State vs. Texas A&M — a game that could very loosely serve as a College Football Playoff play-in game.
The Aggies are 7-1 and ranked No. 5 in both the AP Poll and Coaches Poll. Last week, they were also No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings, which was one spot behind Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 5-0 and No. 3 and No. 4 in the AP and Coaches polls, respectively.
Sure, this is incredibly last-minute and not at all typical of how games are scheduled. But playing football during a global pandemic isn’t typical either, and if Coastal Carolina and BYU could schedule and play a game in a matter of days, why can’t other teams?
Ohio State-Texas A&M would almost certainly be an entertaining matchup and one we wouldn’t normally get to see in the middle of a regular season.
With Ohio State vs Michigan just being cancelled who would be up to watch:
TEXAS A&M Vs OHIO STATE THIS WEEKEND!!
Would settle that 4th spot on the field!! How do we make this happen??

I wish the Big Ten and the SEC and the TV networks and the schools could work out an agreement that resulted in Ohio State v. Texas A&M.
No. 3 v. No. 5.

#5 Texas A&M and (likely) #4 Ohio State are both open this weekend, and it's only Tuesday
MAKE IT HAPPEN
Except, the Big Ten already set their precedent by blocking Nebraska from competing out-of-conference

OK guys. Let's think about this for a second.
The current CFP No. 4 (Ohio State) and No. 5 (Texas A&M) teams are both available THIS WEEKEND!
Make. It. Happen.

Dear Santa,
I would really love to see Ohio State play Texas A&M. Or even Coastal Carolina.
And while you’re listening, I’d also like one of my 10-game parlays to hit.

Ohio State and Texas A&M, both now off this week, should play in a quasi-CFP quarterfinal Saturday.
Meet in the middle.

The Liberty Bowl indicates that they might have been open to host a neutral site game between Ohio State and Texas A&M this weekend, but have a previous commitment for Memphis to host Houston. https://t.co/Re86UsP33d

Ok let's get figure out where #5 Texas A&M and #4 Ohio State could play if they could arrange . Neutral site? Kyle Field? Both leagues would need to change their rules for scheduling Conference only. @AggieFootball @OhioStateFB . Get it set up now!!

What an incredible possibility. Think about this:
1. Michigan vs Ohio State has been canceled this weekend.
2. Texas A&M vs Ole Miss has also beencanceled this weekend as well.
3. We need A&M vs Ohio State to happen this weekend!!!— JC Boice (@jcboice) December 8, 2020
Let's start the petition! Ohio state needs 6 games played to get into the big ten championship, Texas A&M is fighting for that 4th spot in the playoffs. Make it happen!!!! @ESPNCFB @OhioStateFB @AggieFootball #CFBPlayoff

Ohio State should play Texas A+M this week, if they can’t make the big 10 chip at least show they deserve a spot in the playoff
— Brennan Macejka (@bmacejka2) December 8, 2020
Let Ohio State euthanize Texas A&M's playoff chances this weekend imo. Solves a lot of problems at once!
