Kirk Herbstreit drops Ohio State after top ten win over Indiana

After a win over a top-ten team, Kirk Herbstreit didn’t like what he saw out of Ohio State. He dropped the Buckeyes in his latest top four.

Kirk Herbstreit isn’t going to do himself any favors with Ohio State fans on this one. Anyone who watched OSU outlast Indiana yesterday knows the Buckeyes didn’t play their best game of the season. Particularly problematic were some of the decisions Heisman contender Justin Fields made on several passing attempts, three of which fell into the arms of the wrong team, along with the secondary getting torched for almost 500 yards.

And yes, the Buckeyes were up 35-7 at one point before Tom Allen rallied the troops and fought back only to fall short by a touchdown 42-35.

With that said, Ohio State still beat a top-ten team. An Indiana team that most people would now argue is a very good football team. Apparently, Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t feel the same way and has dropped Ohio State to number four in his weekly opinion of the top four teams in the nation.

Not sure how to figure this one out. Clemson is a one-loss team who, yes, lost to No. 2 Notre Dame. Fine, I can cut some slack there. Maybe because Ohio State was a three touchdown favorite and had to hang on to win in the final minutes of play? Not buying it… Clemson did something similar against an unranked Boston College team earlier in the season and had to make a come back to win.

Herbie’s entitled to his opinion and it is really just that. We’ll find out Tuesday where the Buckeyes stand when the only opinion that truly matters reveal the first College Football Playoff rankings.

Until then, I expect the former Ohio State QB to get some nastygrams via social media.
