With the contract of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo expiring after this year, many thinks the team needs to make a big move to convince him to stay.
Logically, some eyes have gone to an All-NBA player who has had trade rumors surrounding him for a year: Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Chris Paul.
Despite this speculation about how the two stars could join forces in Milwaukee, ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported that not only has there been no traction, it’s possible that the Bucks haven’t even approached Oklahoma City with the idea.
“There has been no traction so far — and maybe not even any talks — on any deal sending Chris Paul from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Bucks, multiple sources say,” Lowe wrote in an offseason column Thursday.
The Bucks would have to give up quite a few players, potentially even Brook Lopez, to get an even swap of the $41 million salary that Paul will be owed this coming season.
Having Paul on the books for a total of $85 million over the next two years might be too costly to Milwaukee, in terms of both literal cash and the depth that they would not be able to afford to sign.
But a trio of Paul, Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton would be perhaps the best three-man group in the league.
