76ers ‘expected to finalize’ deal for Daryl Morey as next team president

The 76ers appear set to hire former Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey as their next team president — and that spells trouble for the Boston Celtics.

Things might get tougher for the Boston Celtics in a hurry now that their Atlantic Division rival Philadelphia 76ers are expected to hire former Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey as their next president of basketball operations, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The ESPN analyst reports current general manager Elton Brand will remain in his current role as the former Houston executive takes the reigns of the team that has been recruiting him at least since his last extension with the Rockets.

Morey is expected to finalize his deal with the team by as soon as this weekend according to Wojnarowski, given negotiations began behind the scenes almost as soon as he’d departed his former post.

For the Celtics, this means a much more experienced hand will be taking an active role in cleaning up the team’s awkwardly-constructed roster.

And likely fielding more competitive teams against Boston in the near-term future.
