After starting for much of the 2019-20 season, Miami Heat rookie Kendrick Nunn has not played a large role with the team at the Walt Disney World Resort due to a variety of factors. Now, his role with the Heat over the remainder of the playoffs is up in the air.
Nunn missed a significant amount of practice time due to the coronavirus and has spent a great deal of time working to get his rhythm back. While he was out of the lineup, the team developed a different gameplan and that change has resulted in an 8-1 record in the postseason.
The 25-year-old appeared in just one game in the first round against the Indiana Pacers but played in each game of the second round versus the Milwaukee Bucks. Nunn averaged 3.8 points in 13.3 minutes per game off of the bench and made nice contributions in the series.
Nunn spoke with the media on Monday and said the week layover from the Bucks series has allowed him to get into a rhythm prior to the start of the Eastern Conference Finals. He said he is ready to play no matter what his role will be.
I feel great. We have had a lot of time off so I’m stacking positive days on top of each other during this stretch so I feel great right now. I’m in a great rhythm and I’m ready to play.
By this point in the playoffs, it appears unlikely that Nunn will reclaim his place in the starting lineup since Goran Dragic has been one of the team’s best players to this point. However, if he can continue to contribute in spot minutes, that could be valuable down the stretch.
