Texas Football: Quarterback outlook after Ehlinger era

The quarterback room at Texas is suddenly loaded with talent.

Texas went through a quarterback rut between the likes of Colt McCoy and Sam Ehlinger.

After Texas head coach Tom Herman arrived on campus, the position group took a turn for the better and is now arguably the strongest talent on the roster. Over the next two years, the quarterback position battle will be one of the most exciting competitions to watch in all of college football.

With Ehlinger entering his senior season, the starting role is up for grabs in 2021. Backup quarterback Casey Thompson likely has one foot in the door of becoming the favorite to land the job, considering he’s spent years in the system developing behind Ehlinger.

However, four-star quarterback’s Hudson Card and JaQuinden Jackson are now on campus and were two of the most highly sought-after signal callers in the 2020 recruiting class.

Four-star quarterback Jalen Milroe announced his commitment to Texas in July 2019 and is expected to enroll on campus in 2021. On top of that, the No. 1 prospect in the country, five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers, is expected to arrive in Austin in 2022.

Lets take a look at how Texas may choose to handle this plethora of talent over the next two years. What are the most likely scenarios?
