Darius Slayton giving Giants biggest bang for their buck

Darius Slayton gives the Giants plenty of value.

The New York Giants got themselves a huge find in last year’s NFL Draft in Auburn wide receiver Darius Slayton.

Slayton was selected in the fifth round (171st overall) and added much value to the Giants’ offense, creating a promising rapport with another rookie – quarterback Daniel Jones.

In Bleacher Report’s list of each NFL team’s “Best Value Contracts”, Slayton tops the list for the Giants. Slayton was inked to a standard four-year rookie deal worth $2,753,988. His cap figure for the next three seasons is $675,000 $850,000 and $965,000 respectively. A bargain that should continue to flourish.

“Slayton provided the Giants with something they didn’t previously have on the roster: an outside threat,” writes Bleacher Report’s Brett Sobleski. “Veterans Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard are more effective working out of the slot, whereas Slayton is a slightly bigger target (6’1″, 190 lbs.) with the ability to stretch the field and demand safety help…As a rookie, Slayton led the Giants with 740 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.”

Sobleski points out that Slayton’s stats “aren’t overly impressive” when compared to other wideouts in the league but “the thought of Slayton’s continued development as New York’s WR1 without a salary-cap number over $1.02 million at any point during the next three seasons is exciting.”
