Giants gathering info before making a decision on Aldrick Rosas

The New York Giants are in fact-finding mode when it comes to kicker Aldrick Rosas, who could be cut depending on how things shake out.

The New York Giants were patient with second-year cornerback DeAndre Baker following his arrest for an alleged armed robbery in May, and they are being equally as patient with kicker Aldrick Rosas following his arrest for an alleged hit and run earlier this month.

But don’t mistake that level of patience for inaction. The Giants may yet part ways with one or both of those players when they are done gathering information, which is what they’re currently doing in Rosas’ case, reports NJ Advance Media.

The Giants have been in contact with authorities about Rosas’ alleged incident and are gathering all available information before making any decision, a person familiar with the team’s thinking told NJ Advance Media.

Rosas was taken into custody after being found roughly a mile and a half away from the crash scene. He was covered in blood and police believe alcohol may have been a “factor” in the hit and run.

The 25-year-old Rosas also has a previous DUI on his record, but that arrest came in 2016 prior to the start of his NFL career.

Given that the Giants, general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Joe Judge harp on creating a team-first, no-distraction culture, they can not be happy with either Baker or Rosas right now. But despite that, they have refused to comment publicly on these matters.

“The only thing I’m going to say about DeAndre at this point is he’s currently on our roster and I’m not gonna comment on any ongoing legal investigation or legal situation,” Judge told NJ Advance Media’s Matt Lombardo last Monday. “That’s going to be my standard answer for anyone in a similar situation.”

That standard is now obviously in place for Rosas who, like Baker, faces the potential for jail time over his infractions.

Rosas is scheduled to earn just under $3.26 million this season after signing his restricted free agent tender in early April.
