ESPN’s Courtney Cronin went on SKOR North to discuss the recent news regarding Dalvin Cook.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Cook is refraining from team-related activities until a reasonable deal is reached.

Cronin said that the Vikings were blindsided by the Cook news, according to sources she spoke with.

“Sources I’ve spoken with had no clue this was coming out,” Cronin said. “So they’re kind of like what the heck is going on here.”

Cronin went on to say that the Vikings are not in any rush to reach a new deal with Cook, and that the team has most of the leverage. The running back’s final year of his rookie contract is 2020, so if the team doesn’t sign him, he will become an unrestricted free agent after next season.

Cook finished 2019 with a career-high 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns. I personally think the best decision for the Vikings, in the short and long term, is to extend Cook. You can read about why here.
