The University of Tennessee football program holds a 4-0 all-time record in contests played on Sept. 2.
The Vols first played on Sept. 2 during the 1989 season, defeating Colorado State, 17-14, at Neyland Stadium. UT finished the 1989 campaign 11-1 and Southeastern Conference champions.
Tennessee again played on the date during the 1995 season, recording a win over East Carolina, 27-7. The Vols defeated No. 22 Southern Miss, 19-16, in 2000 and also won against No. 9 California, 35-18, in 2006. All games were played in Knoxville.
