If you’ve been on the internet recently then chances are you might have seen some rumors about Mike Tyson possibly returning to the boxing ring to fight again.
And that noise you just heard was me dropping to my knees to pray for that to happen. ASAP.
There have been rumors about a possible third fight with Evander Holyfield, a fight with current heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, and a bare-knuckle fight with former MMA great Wanderlei Silva that could make Tyson over $20 million.
Do any of those fights need to happen? No. Could all of those fights end in disaster? Yes. Would Tyson at age 53 be putting himself at risk both physically and mentally by taking on any of those guys? Yes, absolutely.
But would records amount of people tune in and watch that, even if it’s like a $100 pay-per-view? Of course they would!
The year 2020 has been a terrible one, we all know that by now. Over the past few months while quarantining from a deadly global pandemic we’ve spent our days and nights watching old sporting events, which have been fine but nothing like live sports.
Then we spent five Sunday nights in a row living for every minute of a documentary on a Chicago Bulls team from the 1990s.
Last Sunday we all watched Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning beat Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in a golf match, which was awesome.
Some boring people even sat down last Sunday night to watch the first part of a documentary on Lance Armstrong. Lance Armstrong!
A Mike Tyson fight would crush all of those things and it would be so fitting that in 2020 we would be sitting on our couches and eagerly anticipating seeing Tyson make that walk to the ring one more time.
I have goosebumps just thinking about it.
As we saw last weekend, Tyson is back to being in really good shape. The man is jacked. He’s also shown in some workout videos that he still seems to have the devastating speed and power that made him the most dominant heavyweight champ of all time. And then last night he got physical with Chris Jericho, though Tyson did struggle to rip his shirt off.
Now, there are some concerns about what Tyson could actually bring to the ring because we haven’t seen him fight since he lost to Kevin McBride in 2005. In fact, he lost the last two fights of his career. So maybe he’s due for a win?
If Iron Mike wants to come back and fight (and probably raise a lot of money for charity while doing so) then we should all just sit back and enjoy the show.
Because what a show it would be.
Assigning NBA teams their Walt Disney World hotel accommodations based on seeds
My pal and colleague Andrew Joseph had a great idea on Wednesday to match all the NBA teams with the hotels they would deserve to stay at in Disney World if the NBA season restarted there in a few months. My favorite part of this great post was that he had the Knicks staying at a campground. Also, the Clippers and Lakers sharing a hotel, but the Lakers getting the better part of it.
