Former Texas QB reaches goal for COVID-19 fundraiser

Former Texas quarterback Shane Buechele has found success on and off the field in Dallas.

After leaving Texas, quarterback Shane Buechele has found success on and off the field.

Buechele transferred to Southern Methodist University in Dallas after Sam Ehlinger won the starting job in Austin. Many thought the former Longhorn would go to a larger program, but being close to home and family carried more weight for Buechele.

In his first year as a Mustang, Buechele threw for 3,929 yards and 34 touchdowns. He was named one of 16 semifinalists for the 2019 Davey O’Brien Award, presented annually to the best college quarterback.

Off of the field, Buechele has been committed to assisting the community. Shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began impacting families and businesses around the city of Dallas, Buechele and his girlfriend Paige Vasquez created a GoFundMe campaign for the Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Buechele plans to deliver the $50,000 check to Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson at 11 a.m. Thursday.
