Packers to hold virtual pre-draft meeting with QB Jalen Hurts

The Packers will meet virtually with former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, a prospect in the 2020 draft.

The Green Bay Packers will have a virtual pre-draft meeting with another one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2020 draft.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers have been in contact and have a pre-draft meeting arranged with Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Hurts spent his first three seasons at Alabama before becoming a graduate transfer to Oklahoma for the 2019 season. As a senior, he threw 32 touchdown passes and only eight interceptions and ran for almost 1,300 yards and 20 more scores. Hurts was the Heisman Trophy runner up to likely No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow.

Teams quarterbacked by Hurts went 38-4. He produced 123 total touchdowns over four seasons (80 passing, 43 rushing).

Hurts participated in the Senior Bowl and did well at the NFL Scouting Combine, running the 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds at 222 pounds and throwing the football accurately during drills.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic projects Hurts to be a mid-round pick, although it’s possible at least one team likes him on Day 1 or Day 2 of the draft.

Many have compared Hurts to current Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

The Packers have done extensive homework on the quarterback class in this year’s draft. While Aaron Rodgers is still under contract for four more seasons, the Packers don’t have a long-term developmental quarterback on the roster, and this draft could present an opportunity to grab one that could sit and develop behind Rodgers for a few seasons.

Hurts was one of the 58 players invited to participate in the NFL draft virtually next week.
