The New York Giants haven’t met with any prospects in a face-to-face setting since the coronavirus caused a near-complete shutdown of the country, but they have managed to meet with a few virtually.
In addition to Michigan center Cesar Ruiz, the Giants are also scheduled to meet with Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas.

At one time, Thomas was considered the best offensive tackle prospect in the draft, but the NFL Combine leveled the playing field a bit and caused a logjam at the top of the positional rankings. Mekhi Becton, Jedrick Wills and Tristan Wirfs are also considered to be a part of that top four group.

Thomas has the potential to develop into a Pro Bowl-caliber offensive tackle at the next level. He’s a more-than-capable athlete for the position and offers plenty of upside as a pass protector on the blindside, and his experience in Georgia’s run-heavy scheme shows when he’s creating holes for his running backs. A technically-sound blocker who does a lot of the little things right, Thomas should be taken early in this year’s draft.
The Giants have a lot of options with the No. 4 overall pick, but should they choose to trade down for the first time in Dave Gettleman’s career, Thomas leaps to the front of the line as their most sensible option.
Despite New York’s need for an edge rusher or even a top-end corner, their need for a long-term answer at tackle looms largest.
