Here’s what Robert Kraft said about Tom Brady’s departure from Patriots

“After 20 years with us, he has earned that right. I love him like a son.”

Robert Kraft was one of the closest people to Tom Brady in the New England Patriots organization.

He admitted numerous times he had a strong emotional connection with Brady, making it harder to let go of him, regardless of the situation. New England is a very business-oriented organization that makes smart decisions, not the emotional ones.

On Tuesday morning, Brady and Kraft had to make a business decision and it resulted in the departure of the 20-year legend. Kraft explained to ESPN’s Mike Reiss how things went down and it appeared to be Brady’s final decision to go his separate way.

“Tommy initiated contact last night and came over,” Kraft said. “We had a positive, respectful discussion. It’s not the way I want it to end, but I want him to do what is in his best personal interest. After 20 years with us, he has earned that right. I love him like a son.”

If it were up to Kraft, this wouldn’t have been a tough decision and Brady would remain a Patriot for life. Bill Belichick reportedly took the reins on the decision and did what he believed was best for the team.
