Kyrie Irving delivers message to those discussing Nets’ locker room

Kyrie Irving will continue to demand greatness from his Brooklyn Nets teammates, much like he does of himself.

A lot has been said about Kyrie Irving through the years. Some of it’s warranted, some of it maybe not. But the Brooklyn Nets point guard continues to speak his mind.

On Wednesday, after the Nets lost to the Sixers in Philadelphia and Irving posted a -29 plus-minus, he made remarks about Brooklyn’s roster. The basketball world was locked in on Irving for the ensuing 24 hours as a result.

Irving struck a chord for some with the way he handled himself — especially since so much has been said about the way the point guard can handle a locker room.

At Friday’s practice, Irving had a message for those who question the way he handles his teammates:

It’s not like I’m a[n] [expletive] yelling at everybody in the friggin’ locker room all the time. And you hear all these stories. At the end of the day. my name — it was given to me by my grandfather — I’m very grateful, but it’s in a lot of people’s mouths all the time, and it is what it is. I’ve earned that respect in terms of how great I am as a player, and there are still more goals I want to accomplish in this league, and I can’t do it without improving an organization and winning a championship, and that’s what it comes down to, so I’m going to continue to push, I’m going to continue to demand greatness out of myself and demand greatness out of my teammates, and we go from there. If it’s harsh as a leader or it’s too much for anybody: you’re not in our locker room, stay the [expletive] out. It’s as simple as that.

These comments come not long after Irving expressed he wasn’t going be petty about the rumors said about him.
