Perfect: Bengals won and didn’t hurt draft standing at all

The Bengals still have the top pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals picked the perfect week to win when thinking ahead to the 2020 NFL draft.

Sunday’s win over the New York Jets moved the needle to 1-11. Normally this would be concerning because before this week, a handful of two-win teams could have still threatened the Bengals.

Not anymore.

As seen by the standings at Tankathon, the Bengals still hold the top pick in the 2020 draft as the only one-win team in the NFL. Two other two-win teams, Washington and Miami, actually picked up wins while the Bengals were busy winning their game over the Jets.

Look at how improbable this was:

Miami taking down Philadephia and Washington getting past Carolina to sit among three-game winners means only the two-win New York Giants are a problem for the Bengals right now.

Those 2-10 Giants lost to Green Bay, 31-13, cementing the team’s eighth consecutive loss. As an aside, if we’re being honest, the Giants aren’t a threat to draft a quarterback anyway with Daniel Jones aboard, though the threat of another team leapfrogging the Bengals via trade is always a problem.

Either way, the Bengals picked a good week to squash 0-16 chatter. Four games remain.
