Man of his word

Process and culture. We hear that all the time and joke about it in a tongue-and-cheek manner when it comes to the Bills. McDermott himself has many trigger words in his coach-speak. How many times have you heard the words versatility, continuity and leadership from him? Other coaches around the NFL dust off some of the same ones.

Now those all relating to successes and long-term goals of this Bills organization have even more weight behind them. That won’t go unnoticed in the Bills locker room. McDermott is the type of coach that’s rallied the troops and got the job done. Players believe in his messages as their current coach, but this goes hand-in-hand with that national narrative as well. And simply put, actions speak louder than words.

And folks around the NFL talk. Could keeping McDermott help the Bills with future recruitment? In a word, absolutely. Perhaps moving into this upcoming season it wouldn’t have played a big role, but if the Bills put off an extension until next offseason, that long-term future of the franchise comes into question. McDermott and the Bills still have to win to keep those positive vibes, that’s a given, but even after a poor season, McDermott’s turned things around before and is here to stay.
