5 too early Michigan football bold predictions for 2020

We’re going out on a limb in February and making some prognostications about what’s to come for the Wolverines this fall.

Considering our prediction of the passing game, this one might be even more bold. But when you look at Michigan’s running backs room, it’s loaded from top-to-bottom.

The Wolverines return promising co-starters Hassan Haskins and Zach Charbonnet, who each had their first real year of action in 2019. Chris Evans returns from suspension, and he very well could have been the starter last year. Christian Turner, if he can remain healthy, can be a veritable threat. Blake Corum, a true freshman early-enrollee, should be an instant impact sort of player.

Michigan may pass the ball more, but experience and skill should pay off for all of these running backs, especially with Josh Gattis’ system employing a ‘put the defense in conflict’ strategy. There’s no reason to think Michigan can’t average 230 yards a game with this group, especially considering the limited breakout performances we saw a year ago.

A lot of it will depend on a new-look offensive line’s ability to work cohesively out of the gates, but either way, Michigan has the players at its disposal who could put up big numbers on the ground, as nearly every one of the aforementioned could be potential starters at a lot of schools across the country.
