4-star WR will choose between Florida and this SEC West program

It’s down to just two schools for four-star receiver [autotag]Eugene Wilson III[/autotag], the University of Florida and the Texas A&M.

The Gaither High (Tampa) product made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday afternoon and teased that an official commitment date was soon to come. Wilson made official visits to both schools in June and has been mulling things over ever since. Florida is the only place he’s visited multiple times (four combined visits in 2022) and has the home-state advantage in this race.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine favors Florida, giving it a 71.7% chance to land the in-state recruit. Three expert predictions have also been cast in favor of the orange and blue for Wilson.

Wilson has said that Florida was one of his favorite programs growing up, and he’d settle in quickly near the top of the depth chart with room to play early on. The relationship isn’t one-sided either. Wilson makes an effort to stay in touch with the staff.

“With almost every school, I wait for them to hit me up for us to have conversations, but I actually reach out to Florida sometimes,” Wilson said to Gators Online. “I enjoy communicating with them and I have a strong relationship with almost the entire coaching staff.”

The On3 consensus ranks Wilson as the No. 146 overall player in the class of 2023 and at No. 24 among receivers. The site’s individual rankings are significantly more bullish on him, though. Wilson is a top-50 recruit by On3’s measure and the No. 8 receiver in his class.
