49ers WR Deebo Samuel gets good injury news, could return by Week 17 vs Raiders

49ers could get Deebo Samuel back in time to face the Raiders in Week 17

The 49ers’ one-sided win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday came with a bit of a dark cloud. It was the fear that the team could be without Deebo Samuel for an extended period of time. Perhaps even that his season was over entirely.

Monday brought great news, all things considered. What was feared to be a high-ankle sprain for the All Pro receiver turns out to be an MCL and ankle sprain. And the 49ers announced they expect him to return for the regular season. This puts him squarely in the timeline of a return to face the Raiders Week 17 on New Year’s Day.

New 49ers QB Brock Purdy was helped greatly in his debut by having Samuel available in the offense. Samuel touched the ball eight times for 64 yards and a touchdown. And the 49ers cruised to a 35-7 win over the Buccaneers.

Sitting at 9-4 on the season, the 49ers should still have plenty to play for come Week 17. Even if the Raiders don’t, they would still have pride to play for, with nothing to lose but draft position and that’s something the 49ers can’t take for granted.
