2022 Sony Open odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2022 Sony Open, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

The PGA’s Hawaii swing continues with the tour heading to Waialae Country Club in Honolulu for the Sony Open. It’s not a star-filled field like last week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions invitation-only event, but there’s plenty of firepower at this event. Below, we look at the 2022 Sony Open odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

Last week’s winner, Cameron Smith, headlines the field. He’s the top-ranked player in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings teeing it up at Waialae this week, coming in at fifth. Webb Simpson, Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama are also in the field, though they all rank outside the top 10 in Golfweek’s poll. Kevin Na is the defending champion and returns in an effort to capture back-to-back victories at the event.

Waialae Country Club has hosted this event since 1965 and typically yields some low scores, although not as low as last week’s historic finish in Maui. We’re going from a par 73 last week to a par 70 at Waialae, with the course playing at 7,044 yards, so it’s not a terribly long track at all. The elevation change isn’t nearly as drastic as Kapalua either, playing much flatter but less wide-open than last week’s course.

Marc Leishman (+2000)

It’s really tough not to go with Smith here after he won last week and finished first at the 2020 Sony Open, but Leishman is a better value at +2000. Leishman has had similar success at Waialae Country Club with a T-4 last year, T-28 in 2020 and T-3 in 2019.

He has finished T-19 or better in four of his last five starts and is fresh off a T-10 at the loaded Tournament of Champions. He’s not only in great form but is also comfortable on this track.

2022 Sony Open picks – Contender

Seamus Power (+5000)

Power has missed the cut twice but has finished no worse than T-21 in the other five appearances across his last seven events. He’s been on a roll lately, ranking 26th in scoring average this season and 51st in Strokes Gained: Approach.

He’s a mid-tier pick at +5000 and would be a good value to finish top-10 at +400. He should contend in a field not nearly as loaded as the Tournament of Champions where he finished T-15 last week.

2022 Sony Open picks – Long shot

Patton Kizzire (+10000)

Kizzire hasn’t been playing well to start this season, but he could kick things into gear at Waialae. He won here in 2018 with a 17-under finish and tied for 13th two years ago.

None of his season stats are impressive and his best finish since September is a T-28 at the Fortinet Championship, but Kizzire fits well on this course and could make some noise as a long shot.
