Brian Kelly’s contract has one huge bonus for making a bowl game…

We confirmed the contract for the newest head coach at LSU to be 10 years and $95 million. Starting for the 2022 season he will earn $9 million and by the end of the deal, it caps at $10 million for his base salary.

As with any contract for head coaches, they are filled with incentives. He will earn a $500,000 longevity bonus each July according to Ross Dellenger. He will also earn $100,000 for a New Years Six bowl game appearance and the numbers go up from there.

Bonuses

  • Bowl Eligible: $500,000 and
  • New Years Six bowl participant: $100,000 or
  • CFP Semifinal participant: $200,000 or
  • CFP Final participant: $300,000 or
  • CFP National Champion: $500,000

He will get $500,000 just getting to six wins and earning a bowl invite? Dellenger believed it to be a misprint but it has been since confirmed to be a legit part of the contract. Essentially Kelly could earn his $9 million base salary plus another $1.5 million in bonuses right out of the gate.

Not hard to see why he opted to join the Tigers rather than stay in South Bend with the Fighting Irish. Following his opening press conference and the media sessions to follow, Kelly will work to finalize his coaching and support staff. With just two weeks until the early signing period, plenty of work to be done to improve 247Sports’ No. 15 recruiting class.

Jets send QB James Morgan packing again, reunite with tight end

The Jets released QB James Morgan and added TE Dan Brown to their practice squad.

James Morgan’s second stint with the New York Jets has come to an end.

New York released the quarterback on Tuesday. Morgan signed with New York’s practice squad on Nov. 24 after quarterbacks Mike White and Joe Flacco landed on the COVID-19 list.

Morgan first joined the Jets as a questionable fourth-round pick in 2020. Joe Douglas had visions of grooming the Florida International product into New York’s backup, but Morgan lost that job to White this past summer after not playing at all as a rookie. New York cut Morgan before the 2021 season, quickly severing ties with the recent mid-round selection.

The Panthers added Morgan to their practice squad on Sept. 2, but he was released on Nov. 12. He then signed with the Steelers’ practice squad on Nov. 15. He was released by Pittsburgh and returned to the Jets shortly after that.

The 24-year-old has yet to play in an NFL game.

With Morgan gone, the Jets orchestrated another reunion: Dan Brown was signed to the practice squad. The blocking tight end had been with New York since 2019 before being traded to the Chiefs for OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif on Nov. 2.

Kansas City recently released Brown. Duvernay-Tardif, meanwhile, has taken over right guard duties for Gang Green. The Jets essentially acquired a starting lineman for nothing.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh explains when team learned DL Calais Campbell was concussed

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh revealed when the team knew that DL Calais Campbell was concussed

The Baltimore Ravens have been dealing with a plethora of injuries this season. They have seen multiple players sidelined for multiple weeks, months, or even the entire year with different ailments. Defensive end Calais Campbell was one of the latest players to miss a game, as he was unable to suit up in Week 12 against the Cleveland Browns due to a concussion.

On Monday, Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh provided an update on Campbell and what led to the star defensive end missing Week 12 against Cleveland.

“I don’t know when [exactly]. He was concussed in the game, but we didn’t know about it until, I don’t know, a day or two later. [That’s when] he had symptoms?” (SVP of Communications Chad Steele: “On Monday.”) “It was on Monday. His symptoms popped up on Monday. They were considered mild on Monday, but they just never cleared. It happened in the game at some point in time, [but] I’m not sure when. Calais [Campbell] maybe could let you know that. He might not even remember, because he didn’t feel anything until Monday when his symptoms came up, when it was reported.”

Campbell has been one of the more important players on the Ravens’ defensive line in 2021. In ten games this season, Campbell has 36 combined tackles, one fumble recovery and half of a sack. He also blocked a crucial field goal in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Campbell has made a living on stopping the run as well as being able to generate pressure from the inside. He is playing at an extremely high level, and is only adding onto what could be a Hall of Fame resumé. The Pro Bowl defensive lineman will look to make his return to the field sooner than later, and hopefully he has a speedy recovery.

PFT discussing Taylor Heinicke and Washington’s win on MNF

Pro Football Talk discussed Taylor Heinicke and Washington’s MNF win over the Seahawks.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbykgy681k112p8 player_id=none image=https://washingtonfootballwire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Mike Florio and Chris Simms were talking about the Washington Football Team Tuesday morning after the WFT defeated Seattle 17-15, Monday night.

“I think he (Heinicke) has found a way to color within the lines, so he is not taking big hits,” Florio said.

“He is able to manage the game. He is getting compared to some pretty _ _ _ _ good quarterbacks… He has taken down Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Russell Wilson. There is something to be said for that,” Florio continued.

Then, it was Simms’ turn:

There certainly is. I think he is going to be one of the more interesting conversations as we go down the stretch here.   He really is. He is a kind of a natural at playing the position. He really has an incredible feel as far as moving in the pocket, making some off-balance throws, changing his arm angle. He is extremely slippery moving around, making plays in the pocket, or getting outside of it.

“You know, there is a moxie about him certainly. He does have a presence on the field,” Simms said.

There is much more in this video of Washington’s win, which is 8 minutes, 24 seconds in length.

5 Bulldogs to watch in the SEC Championship

5 Bulldogs to watch as Alabama and Georgia battle for the SEC Championship!

It’s that time of year again, the two best teams in the SEC head over to Atlanta to battle it out for the SEC Championship.

This year, like several years in the past, is a matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs. It’s Nick Saban vs. Kirby Smart.

Smart will lead the top-ranked Bulldogs into the contest, securely in the playoffs. Smark will also look to knock off his former boss for the first time ever. Saban brings the Tide into the matchup most likely needing a win to ensure a spot in the playoff.

Either way a lot is on the line and coach Saban and coach Smart won’t take one single snap in the contest. They will prepare their teams and it will be up to the guys between the lines to make the plays.

Today we will look at five Georgia Bulldogs that you should be keeping your eye on.

Troy Aikman sees Robert Woods as top-3 WR in NFL and a huge loss for the Rams

Troy Aikman has always been a fan of Robert Woods, calling him a top-3 WR. He believes the absence of Woods is huge for LA.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqby8n025panb709 player_id=none image=https://theramswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

If you’re someone on social media or if you’ve watched a Los Angeles Rams game on FOX’s broadcast on Sunday, then you know that Troy Aikman is an avid fan of Robert Woods. Aikman has repeatedly said that he believes Woods is a top-three wide receiver in the NFL, which is quite the claim.

The news of Odell Beckham Jr. signing with the Rams recently was bittersweet because as he joined Los Angeles, it was discovered that Woods had suffered a season-ending knee injury. With No. 2 not on the field for Los Angeles, Aikman believes the Rams will have a tough time replacing his production because of everything he does on offense.

“I’m definitely worried. The loss of Robert Woods was huge, and I’ve said it. In fact, I tweeted it a few years ago and, man, people were really offended by me saying Robert Woods was a top-3 receiver in the NFL, and I still stand by that. I think he’s a great player. I think he’s one of the most underrated wide receivers in football,” Aikman said on 1310 “The Ticket” Tuesday. “He does everything. Great routes, catches the ball, he blocks, he runs the reverse, he does everything, and he does it all really, really well and never complains. So, they lose him and you just put someone else in that position. There’s not many guys around the league that can do the things he did to help that offense. So, they’ve had a number of injuries as well.”

It goes without saying that Woods is one of the most vital members of the Rams. The veteran wideout is a reliable target in the passing game, but he’s also a significant contributor in the running game.

Whether it’s taking a handoff or delivering a key block, Woods was a staple in Los Angeles’ rushing attack. And when you remove him from the offense, those are big shoes to fill, especially when the Rams continue to sustain injuries at the wide receiver position.

We’ve now gotten a glimpse of what a Woods-less offense looks like for the Rams in the past two weeks as he only missed five total games in his first four seasons with the franchise. While Cooper Kupp and Beckham are supreme talents, it’s hard to replicate what Woods brings to the organization.

With six weeks remaining in the regular season, we’ll have to see if someone — or multiple players — can step up in the unfortunate absence of Woods. But as Sean McVay iterated when the injury first occurred, replacing a player of Woods’ caliber is a tall task.

Chiefs release updated depth chart for Week 13

The #Chiefs have released their latest “unofficial” depth chart ahead of the Week 13 game against the #Broncos.

The Kansas City Chiefs have released their updated depth chart ahead of their Week 13 game against the Denver Broncos.

There were a couple of changes to the 53-man roster this week, but the most recent transactions didn’t go through before the team published their latest depth chart. That means those changes (like the return of Kyle Long) won’t be reflected on the depth chart this week. Remember, these depth charts are considered to be “unofficial” because they are assembled by the team’s PR staff, instead of the coaching staff, which means you should take them with a grain of salt. They don’t always reflect what will actually happen in a game.

Here’s a look at the latest depth chart for Kansas City:

WATCH: Just how valuable to the Boston Celtics is Marcus Smart

The sometimes-polarizing point guard has been a key part of the team’s success this season.

By now, his fans are the first to tell you veteran Boston Celtics point guard Marcus Smart is one of the biggest driving factors for the team’s success, and they have the numbers to point to that support their position.

For whatever reason, the Flower Mound native is a polarizing figure among some Celtics fans, but the fact is he leads the team in plus/minus and Boston has the seventh-best offense in the NBA in recent days no matter how infuriating his occasional ill-advised shot may be. Just how valuable to the team is Marcus Smart this season so far?

Co-host of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast Evan Valenti hosted guest Alexandra Francisco on the most recent episode to talk about the value of the former Oklahoma State player to this iteration of the team.

Watch the clip embedded above to get their takes, as well as the reasons they point to in order to support their views.

Bengals’ Thaddeus Moss suffered injury before blowout win over Steelers

Thaddeus Moss suffered a setback after getting called up to the main roster.

[mm-video type=video id=01fnpb07em577gg9m6jv playlist_id=01eqbw0bft20de1r4d player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fnpb07em577gg9m6jv/01fnpb07em577gg9m6jv-1f90c8e0eada3c27072b35b8169a9fde.jpg]

The Cincinnati Bengals turned some heads by promoting tight end Thaddeus Moss to the active roster from the practice squad for the team’s Week 12 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But Moss was one of the very few active players who didn’t get to play a snap during the 41-10 shellacking.

Turns out Moss suffered a hamstring injury while warming up for his pro debut, which Bengals head coach Zac Taylor says would’ve certainly featured him getting some snaps.

Instead, Moss faces an injury that will hold him out for at least the team’s next game, a Week 13 date with the Los Angeles Chargers, per Taylor.

A fan favorite thanks to his LSU days with Joe Burrow, Moss reverted back to the practice squad on the Monday after the game. The team clearly likes his development and wants to get him involved as he progresses, so this minor setback probably won’t be the last fans hear of him.
