Draymond Green reacts to LaMelo Ball’s double-double in win vs. Kings

On Sunday, the Hornets pulled out an improbable victory over the Kings as LaMelo Ball earned some praise from Draymond Green.

On Sunday, the Charlotte Hornets completed an improbable comeback victory over the Sacramento Kings after trailing by eight points late in the fourth quarter to pull out the 127-126 win at Golden 1 Center.

The Kings took an eight-point lead with 1:13 to play following a dunk by Harrison Barnes. Sacramento was then outscored 12-3 in the final minute by Charlotte after missing five consecutive free throws to keep the Hornets alive.

With 10.7 seconds left, Buddy Hield split a pair of free throws to put the Kings up by two points. From there, Malik Monk converted a tough and-1 finish to help the Hornets steal the game and complete the comeback victory after trailing by nine points in the quarter.

P.J. Washington scored a career-high 42 points to lead the Hornets, while LaMelo Ball produced 24 points, a career-high 12 assists and four rebounds, and Monk had 21 points off the bench. Ball finished with his seventh double-double of the season, the most by a rookie.

The play of Ball even earned some praise from Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.

Ball throughout the year has continued to impress seemingly every time he steps onto the court. He is the likely frontrunner to win the Rookie of the Year award and it may not be even close at this point of the season based on his early success.

The win by the Hornets brought them to within one game of a .500 record at 16-17. The team has played with immense effort and fight throughout the season and that will likely keep them alive for a playoff berth all year long.

Hornets Reactions: Charlotte stuns Sacramento with miracle rally in final minute

The Charlotte Hornets pulled off a stunning rally in the final 90 seconds on Sunday night to stun the Sacramento Kings for a 127-126 win.

The Hornets pulled off a stunning rally in the final 55 seconds on Sunday night to stun the Kings for a 127-126 win.

Malik Monk’s and-one layup with 1.4 seconds left tied and eventually gave the visitors the lead after the freebie, capping off a 12-3 run in the final 53 seconds of the game.

Terry Rozier scored six points in the run with a three-pointer and three free throws, cutting the margin to 123-121. Washington buried a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left to cut the lead back down to one point at 125-124 after a Fox layup.

After a hobbled Buddy Hield split a pair of free throws with 10.7 seconds left, Monk got to the rim and finished through the contact of Richaun Holmes to tie the game before winning it with a free throw. Hield’s heave from beyond half court was short and the Hornets escaped with an improbable win.

Washington finished with a career high 42 points while LaMelo Ball added 24 points and 12 assists. Monk added 21 off the bench.

2021 NFL Draft: Potential Bears first-round target runs blistering 40-yard dash

The Chicago Bears are headed for a 2021 free agency and draft cycle with a big need at wide receiver that could become even bigger if Allen Robinson isn’t re-signed.

Robinson, who’s expected to be hit with the franchise player tag, has been the center of a Bears contract squabble since the start of the 2020 regular season, and there’s been no indication that GM Ryan Pace wants to end it anytime soon.

Even if the Bears tag Robinson, it doesn’t mean he’ll be back in Chicago for the 2021 season. Pace could use the tag in an effort to trade A-Rob rather than lose him for nothing on the open market, and if that’s the case, the Bears will have no choice but to make wide receiver one of their primary targets in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft.

One player who’s been consistently mocked to Chicago at No. 20 overall is Minnesota wideout, Rashod Bateman. The gifted Golden Gopher isn’t mentioned among the top three of four pass-catchers in this year’s draft by the mainstream media, but his game film is a display of Keen Allen-like traits and, in my opinion, a surefire first-round pick.

And while the draft narrative so far suggests Bateman is a certainty to be on the board when the Bears are on the clock, his recent workout numbers could be changing that.

Bateman enjoyed a fantastic 2019 season when he totaled 60 catches for 1,219 yards and 11 touchdowns, and while his 2020 season — which began as an opt-out — didn’t live up to those numbers, his resume is that of a high-end WR1 in the NFL.

Bateman is a name all Bears fans need to circle as a legitimate possibility to join the roster this April, assuming of course that he doesn’t run and jump his way to a higher first-round grade.

3 things to know: Warriors’ winning streak snapped in an ugly blowout loss to Lakers, 117-91

After a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors’ season-high winning streak is over. Here are three things to know from the contest.

Boasting their first three-game winning streak of the season, the Golden State Warriors ran into a freight train on Sunday evening in Hollywood. The Los Angeles Lakers jumped on the Warriors from the opening whistle at Staples Center, snapping their season-long winning streak in blowout fashion, 117-91.

Despite a scorching scoring run in February, Steph Curry capped off the month with only 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field and 2-of-7 from long distance. Shooting 40.7% from the floor, only two other Warriors managed to surpass double-figures in scoring against the Lakers.

Behind a monster first half and a game-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field in 24 minutes from LeBron James, the Lakers cruised to a blowout win over their Northern California rival.

Following an ugly loss to the Lakers, the Warriors will get two days off before a road back-to-back to end the first half of the season. The end of Golden State’s three-game road swing will feature battles with a pair of playoff contenders, the Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns.

Draymond Green

After tallying an impressive career-high with 19 assists against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, Draymond Green’s follow-up performance was cut short. After scoring six points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field with two dimes, Green appeared to roll his ankle while defending a fast break.

Coming out of halftime, the former Defensive Player of the Year was ruled out for the contest with a sprained left ankle. Green will have two days off to rest his ankle before Golden State returns to the floor on Wednesday against the Blazers.

Ugly Start

It didn’t take the Lakers long to build a nearly insurmountable lead against the Warriors on Sunday night. LeBron James recorded 15 of his 19 total points in the first half on 5-of-7 shooting with two boards, two steals and an assist in 17 minutes.

As the Lakers built a commanding lead, the Warriors struggled to answer. As a team, Golden State couldn’t get into any rhythm from outside, shooting only 4-of-17 from deep in the first half. Along with poor shooting, the Warriors couldn’t corral a rebound against the Lakers. In the opening two quarters, Los Angeles outrebounded the Warriors 30-17.

Heading into halftime, the Lakers managed a 73-44 advantage over the Warriors.

Cleaning the glass

Despite Kevon Looney and James Wiseman’s return to the lineup, the Golden State Warriors were dominated on the glass at Staples Center. As Kyle Kuzma recorded a game-high 11 rebounds, the Lakers had eight different players notch four or more boards on Sunday night.

For the Warriors, Wiseman led the team with eight boards. Only four other Warriors surpassed four or more rebounds against the Lakers. After the final buzzer, the Lakers totaled 70 rebounds to the Warriors’ 44.

10 exciting ways to brew the best coffee at home

Different coffee brewing methods aren’t just for fun, they result in incredibly different and unique flavors.

Coffee is one of the world’s most popular drinks, so it makes sense that there are a multitude of ways to make it. And each method results in a unique cup of coffee with different flavors, bolder brews and, in some cases, different levels of caffeine. Switch up your morning coffee routine with these different ways to brew coffee at home.

Drip coffee

If brewing a pot of coffee at home is part of your daily routine, you’re most likely partaking in the drip coffee method. Drip coffee is when hot water slowly drips onto coffee grounds and trickles into a coffee pot below. This is how most conventional at-home coffee makers work.

The perks to making drip coffee with your coffee maker is that you can just hit a button and walk away, allowing the machine to do the rest of the work. Some coffee makers also allow you to set a timer so that there’s a fresh pot of coffee waiting for you in the morning.

One of the big drawbacks to drip coffee machines is that the water drips in the same spot on the coffee grounds, oftentimes over-steeping and sometimes burning only one area of the coffee grounds. This can lead to coffee that can taste a little bitter.

You can jazz things up with different coffee blends or grinding your own beans, but once you learn more about these other coffee making methods, you might not want to use the good beans in your coffee maker.

Pour over coffee

Pour over coffees are similar to your home drip coffee maker, but without the machine. With drip coffees, a machine controls the hot water, but with the pour over technique, you control the distribution of hot water over the coffee grounds.

Steadily pouring water over the grounds allows you to evenly steep them, which will give you a smoother, more flavorful brew. It may be a subtle diversion from your daily coffee routine, but you will certainly taste the difference.

Cold brew coffee

You don’t need any fancy devices to make cold brew coffee. All you’ll need are coarsely ground coffee beans, a container, water, your refrigerator and time. To make cold brew coffee, just add your coffee grounds into a container, add water, and place in the refrigerator overnight.

This allows the coffee to be immersed in water overnight resulting in a smooth, less acidic coffee in the morning. Another perk to cold brew is that the process actually extracts more caffeine than brewing your coffee with hot water. So, if you’re looking for a little extra pep in your step, try the cold brew method.

Kyoto slow drip coffee

Home is where the coffee is… #DropDubai

A post shared by dropdubai (@dropdubai) on

The Kyoto slow drip looks like a complex Rube Goldberg-esque contraption, but it makes a coffee that’s a cross between a cold brew and a slow drip coffee.

The device is made from three separate sections. Water is poured into the top where it slowly drips into the middle section that holds the coffee beans, allowing them to become steeped in the water. And then the coffee moves through a tube into a container at the bottom where the coffee is collected.

The whole process can take 12 to 24 hours, resulting in a coffee that has very pronounced flavors. If you’re really passionate about your coffee, maybe you’ll have a Kyoto slow drip at home, but chances are you’ll likely have to try this style of coffee at a specialty coffee shop.

Vietnamese coffee

The Vietnamese coffee maker, also known as a phin, is the perfect size for a single serving of coffee. To make Vietnamese coffee, you pour hot water over coarse ground dark roast coffee which is then filtered through a small metal sieve. This allows for the grounds to steep, fully immersed in hot water for a bit before slowly dripping through the metal filter and into your single serving cup.

When Vietnam was colonized by the French, the French realized that coffee beans grow really well in Vietnamese soil. But because enjoying straight coffee was an expensive delight, Vietnamese coffee is traditionally made with chicory coffee, a blend of coffee beans and chicory root which was used to extend the life of one’s coffee rations.

To sweeten the coffee, they used condensed milk because regular milk was another luxury that wasn’t readily affordable to much of the population. Vietnamese coffee is a story of French colonization, but it has resulted in a unique style of coffee that is a strong, sweet and delightful brew.

French press coffee

The French press is as much of a coffee-brewing method as it is an elegant device you’ll want to put out on display. Coffee grounds are put directly into the glass container and hot water is poured over top. Be sure to stir the coffee grounds a bit, immersing them fully in the hot water, before securing the lid on top with the plunger up.

After a few minutes slowly push down the plunger which will filter the coffee while pushing the coffee grounds to the bottom of the French press. This is a perfect way to brew coffee for a small group, or brew coffee on a camping trip.

AeroPress coffee

The AeroPress might look confusing, but it’s very similar to the French press style of coffee. It has a similar steeping and plunger system, but instead uses a paper filter which helps filter out all of the coffee grounds and sediment, leaving behind a clean cup of coffee. This is another handy contraption to brew coffee on the go.

Moka pot coffee

Moka pots work in reverse from other coffee brewing methods. Water is put in the bottom of the device, coffee is put in a device in the middle, and as the water heats up, it moves through the coffee beans to the top section of the pot which is the coffee’s container.

It’s similar to a percolator coffee pot but not exactly the same. The coffee brewed in moka pots can be more concentrated and stronger, whereas percolators make somewhat weaker pots of coffee.

Moka pots are another portable coffee brewing system that even allow you to brew a cup of coffee right over a campfire.

Vacuum coffee (siphon)

The vacuum coffee maker is another confounding contraption that will make your coffee nook look like a laboratory. There’s a lot of theatrics when it comes to brewing coffee with a vacuum coffee maker. The device looks like an hourglass where water is placed in the bottom chamber and, as it is heated, the water moves up the siphon and into the top chamber where coffee grounds are added and fully immersed in the hot water.

Once the heat is turned off, the bottom bulb cools, creating a vacuum which pulls the coffee from the top chamber through a filter and into the bottom bulb. Similar to other methods where coffee grounds are fully immersed in the water, this results in a brew that’s stronger and has smoother flavors and textures.

Espresso

Espressos are perfect for full-flavored pick-me-ups that can be enjoyed any time of the day. Pressurized water is poured quickly over finely ground coffee beans resulting in a highly concentrated shot of coffee. Because it’s brewed quickly and is more concentrated, it’s a bit more bitter and acidic but can also be sweet and mildly toasty. This makes espresso the perfect kind of coffee to make cappuccinos and Americanos.
