It’s backwards but I love the effort on a solid history joke.

Weird but it checks out, I guess.

I need meat judging season tickets.

Sixers guard Ben Simmons: ‘We have the best fans in the NBA’

Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons praises Sixers fans after a win over the Indiana Pacers.

The Philadelphia 76ers are 9-0 at home to begin the season and 14-6 overall and their fans have been their normal passionate selves as the season continues on. The fan base is as passionate as they come and it makes it tough to go into Wells Fargo Center and beat the Sixers on any given night.

The Indiana Pacers were the latest team to figure this out when they fell to the Sixers in Philadelphia 119-116. Ben Simmons led a big defensive effort late as he recorded three of his four steals late to lift the Sixers to a win and close it out as the fans in Philadelphia roared with passion.

Coach Brett Brown praised Sixers fans earlier as he acknowledged what they bring to the team and Simmons echoed that thought:

We have the best fans in the NBA and that’s not being biased or anything. You go anywhere else, it’s no atmosphere like it so we want to give everything we have to our city. It’s a big responsibility, that’s what I believe.

The Sixers will have more home games coming up as eight of their next 11 games are at home. It will give them the opportunity to get some more wins in front of their fan base. [lawrence-related id=20339,20330,20321]

Take a look.

Sure, there might be more to play for next week, but this is still pretty awesome. Enjoy the journey, right?

Oklahoma wins the 114th Bedlam 34-16 over Oklahoma State

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State traded blows early, but the Sooners put the Cowboys away in the second half to remain in the Playoff hunt.

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Sooners are one win away from potentially reaching its preseason goals.

No. 21 Oklahoma State (8-4, 5-4 Big 12) fought all the way up until the fourth-quarter without future NFL star receiver Tylan Wallace and rising young quarterback Spencer Sanders. No. 7 Oklahoma (11-1, 8-1) stuck to its ground game and its defense proved its worth to put the Cowboys away in the second half to win 34-16.

The Sooners and Oklahoma State traded blows to start the game to keep things tied up at seven after two drives.

Oklahoma jumped out to a 17-7 lead early in the second-quarter after a Parnell Motley strip and recovery gave the Sooners good field position. It was Oklahoma’s 10th takeaway of the season.

Oklahoma State didn’t bow down quite yet, but were held to two field goals in the second-quarter and went into halftime down 20-13.

It was all Oklahoma in the second half.

The Sooners defense held the Cowboys to three points and 109 yards on 25 plays after halftime. The Oklahoma offense behind its offensive line churned out two long scoring drives that milked over 12 minutes of game time.

Kennedy Brooks lead Oklahoma on the ground with 160 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown.

With Alabama’s loss to Auburn, this win by Oklahoma strengthens its College Football Resume up against No. 6 Utah.

The Sooners will play No. 9 Baylor in the Big 12 Championship next Saturday at 11 a.m. CT on FOX.

Look: Texas A&M Twitter reacts to getting trounced by LSU 50-7

Texas A&M Aggies Twitter reacts to getting the doors blown off by LSU 50-7

It seems like just yesterday that the LSU Tigers barely scraped by the Texas Longhorns 45-38 in the second game of the season. Fast forward to this Saturday night and LSU is facing off against one of the other Texas teams, but this time it was no contest. The Texas A&M Aggies just got absolutely demolished by LSU 50-7 in a game that was so uncompetitive it would have been boring to watch if not for all the Twitter reactions. The Aggies put up a whopping 169 total yards and one score on the Tigers’ defense after Sam Ehlinger and Co. went for 530 yards and 38 points.

Enjoy diving into the salt mine.

Yes, thank goodness!

Quinton Dunbar’s breakout shouldn’t go unnoticed

Quinton Dunbar is in the middle of a huge season for the Redskins.

We’ve recently seen plenty of praise for the single-game breakout of Fabian Moreau after he got a chance to start on the outside.

But Moreau isn’t the only member of the Washington Redskins secondary having a big season.

Don’t forget Quinton Dunbar, the feel-good story who went undrafted in 2015 and eventually made the switch to cornerback. Since, he’s done nothing but trend in an upward direction.

According to grades compiled by Pro Football Focus, Dunbar ranks first among corners with at least 200 snaps in both overall grade and coverage grade.

Impressive, and don’t forget the four interceptions he’s gathered in the process:

While there seem to be plenty of questions about the secondary for the Redskins this offseason, Dunbar doesn’t seem to be one of them. He’s made more strides despite the crumbling state of affairs around him and that shouldn’t get lost in the season as a whole.

3 matchups that will decide 49ers – Ravens showdown

The 49ers move to the second step of their three-game stretch of teams .800 or better with a visit to Baltimore.

The 49ers visit Baltimore on Sunday for the second phase of their three-game stretch against teams with winning percentages of .800 or better. They’ll have a tough task trying to slow down the highest-scoring offense in the league, led by quarterback Lamar Jackson. San Francisco’s offense also faces a tall task against a Ravens defense that’s allowed just 11.5 points per game in their last four.

Here are the three matchups that matter most in Baltimore:

Robert Saleh vs. Lamar Jackson

Saleh will have to figure out how to do something not many teams have been able to this season: put together a game plan to slow down Jackson. Slowing him is the key to keeping Baltimore from racking up 30-plus points–  something they’ve done six times this season.

If there’s any defensive coordinator that can do it, it’s Saleh. Saleh was able to put together a plan last week that held Aaron Rodgers to just 104 passing yards and his worst-ever yards per attempt. It could be game of adjustments for Saleh and the defense, but they’ll need to play their best game of the season against Jackson and company.

Richard Sherman vs. Marquise Brown

Brown has been Jackson’s second-favorite target behind Mark Andrews, but Brown is by far his most explosive. It’s not easy to beat Sherman. Speed is one way teams have tried to attack the 31-year-old. Sherman has also had a penalty issue the past couple of weeks with five penalties, including three pass interferences, against Arizona and Green Bay. Sherman can thwart Brown’s speed with physicality, but that opens him up to those flags coming out.

Fred Warner vs. Mark Ingram

Lost in Jackson’s MVP-caliber season is Mark Ingram’s importance to the Ravens’ offense. Ingram is averaging a whopping 5.2 yards per carry and has nine rushing touchdowns. The 49ers have struggled against the run game all season, allowing 100 or more yards on the ground in nine of their 11 games. Warner has been good against the run while putting together an All-Pro caliber season in the middle of the 49ers’ defense. He has a team-high 81 tackles and six tackles for loss. Not only will Warner be important against a running Jackson, but also Ingram while trying to contain the league’s best running team.

WATCH: How did Syracuse manage a 9-point victory in OT?

A defensive TD gave Syracuse a rare 9-point victory in overtime Saturday against Wake Forest.

Syracuse downed Wake Forest, 39-30 Saturday at the Carrier Dome. The final score is not unusual. What is odd is the Orange won the game by 9 points in overtime.

How can that happen?

Well. the teams went to free football tied at 30. Syracuse managed a field goal in its possession to take a 33-30 lead.

Wake got the ball and was driving for what would have been a winning touchdown until Trill Williams got in the act.

Watch as the Orange sophomore DB from Yonkers, NY, rips the ball from Wake Forest receiver Kendall Hinton at the 4 and racing 96 yards for a defensive touchdown.

And, there you go. Syracuse gets the field goal in overtime and a defensive touchdown and that adds up to a 39-30 victory that concludes the Orange season.

Former Alabama football player believes in the Bulldogs

Former Alabama Crimson Tide football player believes in the Bulldogs this year

Auburn officially eliminated Alabama from the College Football Playoff race on Saturday, but that doesn’t mean all is doom and gloom amongst the Crimson Tide fanbase.

After the game, former Alabama linebacker and current Washington Redskin Shaun Dion Hamilton made a bold prediction, which actually respects the Bulldogs.

Take a look.

I’m sure Coach Smart won’t want to read this for a while, but it sure does bring some confidence to the fanbase after seeing Joe Burrow and the Tigers light up Texas A&M Saturday.

Can the Dawgs’ daunting defense shut down mighty LSU? We’ll see.

Joel Embiid after Sixers win vs. Pacers: ‘We can improve so much more’

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid says the Sixers can be even better.

The Philadelphia 76ers have big plans for the 2019-20 season. It’s all about winning a championship for this very talented group of players and these games in the early part of the season are more about growing together as a group and gaining chemistry.

On Saturday, they had to dig deep in order to come away with a 119-116 win over the Indiana Pacers. They found themselves trailing the Pacers by seven after they let a 15-point lead slip away and they had to muster up enough stops and get it done.

Joel Embiid led the Sixers with 32 points and 11 rebounds and Tobias Harris had 22 points while Ben Simmons came up with some huge plays in order to win the game. Despite those numbers and the energy it took to win the game, they believe they can be better.

Embiid stated post-game:

Indiana is a pretty good team so any time you get a win like that is always great, but we can improve so much more so we’re going to keep on getting better.

The Sixers are 14-6 and are 9-0 at home to start the season, but they still must be better in some areas. The defense was not stellar for the entire game as they allowed the Pacers to have big scoring runs and they also committed a few errors that allowed Indiana to go in front in the first place. Those are things that can be better.

Embiid added:

We still have a lot of room for improvement. We can get so much more better so, all of the guys are working and doing the right things and we can all get better.

Indiana is a good team that the Sixers could see at some point down the line in the playoffs so this is something that is going to help propel them in the future. A guy like Domantas Sabonis, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers before fouling out, can give Embiid a battle over the course of a 7-game series.

Embiid added on the matchup with Sabonis:

It’s great. I play physical, I put my body on the line every single night. Obviously, he’s physical so it’s a great battle.

The Sixers and the Pacers will meet again on December 31 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. [lawrence-related id=20330,20321,20313]
