2 spectacular European putts may have doomed the United States in the Ryder Cup

Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland are unstoppable.

Oh boy. The United States team is down bad on Day 1 of the Ryder Cup … and it might be too big of a hole to climb out of if this keeps up.

After the morning in which Europe went 4-0 over the United States, Viktor Hovland and Tyrrell Hatton had to keep the super duo of Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth from winning. And Hovland sank a tough putt on No. 18 at Marco Simone that made sure the match was tied.

Then? Jon Rahm — who is positively on fire so far — stepped up on No. 18 while facing Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka … and sank a similar putt to tie the match:

What can you do there when those two are playing at this high of a level? Nothing. That’s what. We’ll see if the U.S. can dig out of this.
